Public selves political stages :interviews with icelandic women in government and theatre

In Iceland, there is more of an overlap between politics and the arts than is typical of larger nations, giving theatre prominence while lending political life the immediacy of theatre. This work consists of 19 interviews with Icelandic women in theatre, politics or both. The interaction of the arts in public discourse features in these interviews which aim to provide models to theatre workers interested in applying their art toward a notion of the common good, as well as to those in political life interested in enlisting the theatre's close collaboration in the challenge of governing. In addition, this book seeks to show the interviewees as independent and creative practioners of feminism, both inside and outside the theatre.
