- 附註: In the 17th and 18th centuries 'dividing' a melody meant splitting the orginal notes into shorter ones and then treating these in an ornamental way. Eventually the term 'divisions' came to refer generally to pieces that were freely inventive and contrapuntal. The present Divisions were written in that spirit, but using a contemporary musical language and several different, yet related, tunes. The work was composed and premiered in Wellington in 1986, then revised the following year. The revised versiion was first performed in the auditorium of the National Library on 23 June 1987. It is dedicated to the composer's friend and patron, Madame Jean Carrive.
