Prehistory

Chronologically prehistory accounts for over 99% of the human past. During this time, the earliest human ancestors spread across the world from Africa and changed, modified, and evolved until the species "Homo sapiens sapiens" made its appearance some 200,000 years ago. This teacher's guide provides an outline of the prehistory of the British Isles and suggests a number of ways in which the study of prehistory can be fitted into school curricula as an integral, relevant, and exciting component. The guide contains the following sections: "About This Book"; "Timeline"; "In Amongst the Ice"; "Recolonizing the North"; "Social Change"; "The Age of Stonehenge"; "People Everywhere and a Good Climate"; "Conflict and the Rise of the Hillfort"; "Living on the Edge of Empire"; "Documentary Evidence"; "Educational Approaches"; and "Bibliography and Resources." Resources include books for teachers, educational approaches, videos, poster packs, books for pupils, fiction for pupils, and activity centers. (BT)
