This volume is the first of five in the Complete Works of Mily Balakirev for piano. The works are arranged in chronological order, with this volume containing compositions written prior to 1884. This Urtext edition is based on the autograph manuscript and/or first edition of the works, with editorial additions reduced to a minimum and designated by square brackets. The composer's peculiarities of notation and original fingerings are maintained throughout with minimal editorial additions. This volume includes eight pieces together with editorial notes and a biography of the composer.
