Chang Dai-chien (1899-1983) is widely acknowledged as one of the fore- most Chinese painters of the 20th century. During a 60-year career he painted almost 30,000 works, his stature attributable to his brilliant innovations, which aligned Chinese painting with 20th-century sensibilities.
