摘要:Continuing with the theme of their earlier volume, The Dark Side of Interpersonal Communication, editors Brian H. Spitzberg and William R. Cupach have prepared this second collection of essays that focus on the role that "darker" behaviors play in close relationships. The intent of this effort is both to redress the ideology of optimism characteristic of textbooks and the popular press, and to shed light on the darker realms of social behavior. Rather than assuming that being honest, cooperative, empathic, and expressive is always desirable, it is argued here that positive value may be found in deception, selfishness, ambiguity, conflict, and even violence. Scholars and researchers in all areas of close relationships, including psychology, sociology, and interpersonal communication, will find this collection to be a compelling investigation of highly important yet often neglected phenomena, encouraging further consideration of the hidden and forbidden elements of human relating.
