摘要:This small book has two purposes. The first is to introduce readers to the central issues in classical sociological theory. The second purpose is to develop a critical understanding of the important insights that can be found in classical theory as the relate to contemporary society and to social change. The book exhorts the reader not merely to read classical social theory for its own sake, but more importantly to use it as a means of explaining our current situation, individually and collectively, in order to contribute to more, not less, social justice. The text focuses on the European tradition in classical social theory beginning with the Enlightenment. Among those theorists discussed are Comte, Spence, Durkheim, Pareto, Simmel, Weber, Mannheim, Marx, Lenin, Luxemburg and Gramsci-- Provided by publisher.
