摘要:The essential resource book for internet research, Don't Just Surf, has now been updated. This is a comprehensive revision of the very popular and highly regarded 1997 edition. All chapters have been revised and updated with new information and reference to new sites and tools. The major changes to the book are as follows: * All illustrations use Netscape 4.0, while there is now also reference to the other major browser, Internet Explorer. * Three important new chapters: Purchasing information on the Web; Search tools by subject; and a new summary chapter, Effective strategies. * Chapter 5 on 'freely' available information has been extended and serves as a lead-in for the major new chapter on proprietary information on the Internet. Chapter 5 also contains a new section on different file types and how to download them using plug-ins. * Chapter 14 on New Developments looks at individual site indexes and site maps and includes developments and research on metadata.
