Annotation. Gender mainstreaming was established as a global strategy for the promotion of gender equality at the Fourth World Conference on Women, Beijing, 1995. All entities within the Untied Nations are encouraged to give greater attention to gender perspectives in their work programmes and to support the efforts of member states. This publication contains the proceedings of the first regional symposium on gender streamlining, organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) at Bangkok in December 2001.
