The newest in Matthew Barney's book documentations of his video and film projects is Cremaster 1. Interpreting his work leads to puzzles and speculations. But as Peter Schjeldahl wrote in his Village Voice review of Cremaster 4, "What's the rush? Barney is a young artist who bids to be in our faces for a long time. When he deems it important for us to know anything, he will make it plain. I am convinced of this by the sensation, a mark of great artists, of being in altogether trustworthy, though very strange, hands".
