An autobiography written by Tan Kah Kee when he went into hiding in Indonesia between 1943 and 1945. He reflected on forty years of his life journey and recorded the arduous struggle to promote education and improve society. This book was first published in 1946 and reprinted in 1979. The 1993 edition includes an appendix of important letters from his younger brother Tan Keng Hian, sent between 1923 and 1927, which are significant supplementary materials and references to Tan Kah Kee's autobiography.
