The many complex and difficult issues relating to the performance of music from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries form the subject of this volume of scholarly research articles, originally published between 1946 and 2009. The issues covered range from the voices-and-instruments debate of the 1980s to the performance of sixteenth-century sacred and secular music, and from the role of instrumental ensembles to the problems of pitch standards and musica ficta.
