Vincent van Gogh :the complete paintings

This two volume set includes the complete paintings of Dutch post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), reproduced wherever possible in full-color. The paintings are arranged in chronological order, with occasional departures for technical or aesthetic reasons. The text, which is also chronologically ordered, traces van Gogh's difficult life journey, filled with terrible loneliness and studded with fits of madness -- the tragic life of an outsider, an isolated genius at odds with society. Volume one traces the artist's development from 1881 until his move to Paris, where in the two years between 1886 and 1888, he painted more than 200 pictures. Volume two traces van Gogh's development from his departure for Arles in 1888, through the fruitful Saint-Rémy period, to his tragic death 1890. Within just 30 months, working at a fever pitch, van Gogh painted the 463 works shown in this volume that made him famous the world over.
