Winner of the 2 1 Pulitzer Prize in Music! This landmark, five-movement string symphony was commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in honor of the 1 th anniversary of Symphony Hall in that city, and premiered there on November 3 , 2 , with Seiji Ozawa conducting. The composer's comments about the music appear in an introduction to the score. A recording is available on the Ondine label, featuring the Helsinki Philharmonic.
