摘要:The chief impetus for this third edition was essentially the same as that for the second: the desire to bring information on instruments and orchestral practice up to date. As in the earlier editions, the emphasis is on the practical fundamentals of orchestration. No attempt has been made to give a detailed account of the construction of instruments, and historical background has been included only where it seemed essential to an understanding of the modern instruments or of scores of an earlier period. It is assumed that students who are studying orchestration from this book have already had a thorough training in harmony. - Publisher.
